Live! / Beò! Festival

In 2018, I was appointed Project Co-Ordinator of Highland Youth Art Hub’s pioneering collaborative youth arts festival with National Trust For Scotland as part of the Year of Young People. Leading a co-design process working with young people from the Highlands, we created Live! / Beò! – a cross-art festival that took place across six of NTS’ most iconic Highland sites; Brodie Castle, Glencoe, Glenfinnan, Inverewe Gardens, Hugh Miller’s Cottage and Culloden Battlefield.

Key events included Fo Sgàil nam Beann Àrda: A Celebration of the People and Culture of Lochaber – past present and future, Glenfinnan Monument (link) – a truly unique opportunity for local young people to share their views on an iconic platform; namely the Glenfinnan Monument. 15 young people took part in the creation of a short film lightshow that was projected onto the Monument and seen by hundreds of people. NTS wanted the project to introduce young people to their local National Trust site; the project succeeded and 54% of attendees were under 26 years with 47% of those visiting the National Trust for Scotland site for the first time.

LIVE! / BEÒ! 2018 was part of a wider programme of events to mark the Scottish Government’s Year of Young People, a Scottish Government initiative which offers the opportunity for generations to come together and celebrate Scotland’s young people in 2018.
