Journeys Festival International

From 2016 – 2018, I was Producer of Journeys Festival International; a cross-art, cross-city festival that celebrates the creative talent of exceptional refugee and asylum seeker artists and shares the refugee experience through great art. I led many project strands including the commissioning of Turner Prize nominee Mark Titchner in a collaborative project with refugees and asylum seekers in Manchester that became a large-scale outdoor exhibition across some of the city’s most iconic buildings.

As well as visual arts, I managed new-writing projects, photography commissions, film screenings, community theatre, VR installations, family friendly activity, several shipping container projects and large outdoor music stages. I worked on new theatre commissions with companies including Belarus Free Theatre and Aakash Odedra. Working across Manchester, Leicester and Portsmouth throughout, the project also extended to Hamburg, Rome, Palermo and Budapest in 2017 where we worked with partners to create pop-up theatre and outdoor exhibitions, including one controversial project on Budapest trams.
